Friday’s dinner will be at Terracello Winery where we will be treated to some sampling of their fine wines, meeting the owner/vintner, and then enjoy dinner, a wood fired pizza extravaganza with a spread of sides buffet style. I’m hopeful that there will be some DJ music and dancing to close the night.

Saturday

We all meet at Base 31, Picton’s old airforce base from the 1940s where many aircrews from the RCAF were trained. Here we will have breakfast, which will be in a hanger in the company of an operational Lancaster Bomber. We will be given a tour of the exhibit that’s being built around the plane. Breakfast will be a variety of breakfast Hor d’Oeuvres, coffee and tea.

Our first stop will be Lake on the Mountain, which is a surreal setting of a lake 60 meters above Lake Ontario. Great place for a photo op or just to enjoy the beauty of such a marvel.

A very small winery, Cape Vineyards, for sampling of their biodynamic wines and perhaps cider.

The County Cider Company is next for a change of pace and some excellent ciders samplings including their most amazing wood fired pizza as a snack. We’ll have an amazing view of Lake Ontario and learn a bit about the ‘Marysburgh Vortex’.

A guick stop at Joel’s Waupoos Tarts to pick up a butter tart per person…one of the best that you’ll ever have! If open, Sunnyvale Farms across the highway makes some pretty amazing popcorn!

Next we will take an hour or so drive winding through Black River towards the tip of Point Petre, through Cherry Valley and around East Lake and then West Lake where we will end up at place for those who love galleries and the arts. Belinda Labatte, a PCA member, is co-founder of Dahlia S L with her daughter Dahlia, a show-based contemporary fine art gallery that was founded in the county. We will have a private tour featuring new works from artists in the county and from all across Canada. Drivers will be greeted with beverages in a relaxing home gallery tour.

Those who want to can head back to their hotel to freshen up while others may want to head into Picton to shop for an hour or so.

To end the evening we will be going to Karlo Estates for a tour of the winery, food pairings with 5 wines of your choice (nuts, chips, chocolate, cheese, seitan salami, wasabi peas, etc.). There will be lots to snack on and can be considered as ‘dinner light’. If you’re still hungry, there’s more food available from a food truck on site. Wait until you see their amazing barn conversion complete with vintage Victorian furniture. To end the evening there will be a bonfire (weather permitting) and live music.

Sunday

We start off our day by meeting at the century old Waring House for a buffet style breakfast (Assorted Croissants, Muffins & Scones, Freshly Slice Fruit Tray, Vegetable Frittata, Sausages, Coffee, Tea, Orange Juice) in our own private room.

First stop is Slake Brewery, a hip new brewery in a beautiful building and setting. Here we will sample some of their beers.

Next stop has always been a personal favourite of mine, Lighthall Winery, where we sample wines paired with the cheeses that they make to be enjoyed with their wines.

They have always been a hit!

A beautiful drive away is Gillingham Brewing Company which many claim is the best brewery in PEC. We’ll have to see about that when we sample some of their beers.
