The double-oh year:

 Did you spend New Years Eve watching CNN expecting to see all sorts of glitches?  Kind of a non-event wasn’t it?  After all the hype that led up to Y2K, I admit to being a little disappointed.   Those who feted at Chateau Vaudreuil  (location of the AGM three years ago) appreciated that the management turned off the power for a minute just after midnight.  Other than that, we were left wondering “Why 2K?”.  Even my Win 95 computer worked! Happy 1900 everyone!

Daytona 24Hrs – Passed by a Caddy:

In this,  the dullest part of the automotive season, the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona is normally one of the bright spots. Not this year. It wasn’t fun watching Porsche get creamed by upstarts.  Maybe the rules are unfair to Porsche, maybe management prefers to invest dollars elsewhere. I am concerned that Porsche has forgotten what established the reputation of the marque in the first place.

An Exciting Summer:

As Mike Delaney wrote last month, we are going to have a very different program this year. It’ll be fun to learn new tracks like Sanair and Ste-Eustache, not to mention the newly renovated Mosport.

Learning different circuits makes everyone a better driver. Probably like skiing, going to different mountains seems to improve skills by some magical process I’ve never figured out.

Two Weeks With a Boxster S

After two years of waiting, my Boxster S was delivered on April 27th. Here are my first impressions of it. 

In the gloom of winter, Speed Yellow with black seemed like a good idea.  pring sunshine proved the good looks but it sure is visible. I fear it will attract unwarranted attention. Speaking of which, to those Rennsport folks leaving me voicemails singing “you are my sunshine..you are my sunshine”, thank you. Please stop now.

Calling all Trackies!

We had Instructor Day at Sanair on May 20th and DE participants are in
for a treat this summer! I’d like to thank everyone who turned out knowing that the only day we could get was on the long weekend.

Special thanks to Botho Von Bose who drove from Toronto for the occasion. The Ottawa crowd was also well represented and we all appreciate that it’s a long drive for one day.

Back from Hawai

We’re back:

Louise and I missed the Mosport DEW (well, actually we didn’t really “miss” it,) because we were honeymooning in Hawaii. We loved the place. The ocean is a very special color of blue. Not blue black like the Atlantic, it’s what I’d call “true blue”. Somebody quipped that Hawaii spends billions dumping tons of “Tidy Bowl” into the water. That best describes the color.

Is it my imagination or is there a lot more traffic this year than usual. I can’t get anywhere without experiencing “congestion”.  Even though most cars on the road are air-conditioned, hot weather seems to raise aggression levels which makes the traffic worse.
